Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair’ Gets First Theatrical Release in December

Quentin Tarantino fans have waited years for this moment: Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair will finally receive its first nationwide theatrical release on December 5, courtesy of Lionsgate.

Originally conceived and shot as one epic film, Kill Bill was split into two installments—Vol. 1 in 2003 and Vol. 2 in 2004—due to its massive four-hour runtime. Together, the films grossed more than $330 million worldwide and cemented Tarantino’s status as one of modern cinema’s boldest storytellers.

The Whole Bloody Affair merges the two volumes into a single, seamless narrative, removing the cliffhanger ending of Vol. 1 and the recap that opened Vol. 2. The release will also include a never-before-seen seven-and-a-half-minute animated sequence, offering longtime fans a fresh experience.

“I wrote and directed it as one movie — and I’m so glad to give the fans the chance to see it as one movie,” Tarantino said in a statement. “The best way to see Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair is at a movie theater in glorious 70mm or 35mm. Blood and guts on a big screen in all its glory!”

The project has been something of a “white whale” for Tarantino enthusiasts. It premiered at Cannes in 2006, with a limited run at Los Angeles’ New Beverly Cinema in 2011, and resurfaced briefly this summer at Tarantino’s Vista Theater. But until now, it had never reached audiences on a wide scale.

With Lionsgate handling distribution—already home to Tarantino classics like Reservoir Dogs, Jackie Brown, and Inglourious Basterds—this long-awaited release ensures fans across major markets will finally witness The Whole Bloody Affair as Tarantino always intended.
