Stranger Things Finale Takes Over Theaters: Netflix Sets 2-Hour Event Across 500+ Locations

The Stranger Things finale is officially going big-screen. Stranger Things will cap its run with a nationwide, fan-first theater event as Netflix confirms the final episode will screen in more than 500 theaters across the U.S. and Canada on Dec. 31 at 5 p.m. PT—simultaneously with its streaming debut.

Stranger Things finale: Where to Watch

Clocking in at a cinematic 2 hours and 5 minutes, the finale isn’t just another episode—it’s a whole ass event. Rather than selling traditional tickets, participating theaters will offer concession vouchers that guarantee seating, with all revenue going directly to exhibitors. It’s a rare move for the streamer and a major win for local theaters, which keep every dollar from the night.

Fans can RSVP via the official site, and availability is first-come, first-served. (Note: Netflix-owned theaters will not sell vouchers but will participate through the RSVP system.)

The theatrical rollout follows months of fan campaigning and a change of heart from Netflix leadership, after the series’ creators, Duffer Brothers, publicly voiced their hope to see the show’s sendoff on the big screen. Netflix’s chief content officer, Bela Bajaria, ultimately confirmed the greenlight as demand surged.

On the streaming side, Season 5 is rolling out in phases: the first four episodes are already live, the next three land on Dec. 25, and the finale arrives on Dec. 31—in theaters and at home. The hype is justified: all four previous seasons recently surged back into Netflix’s global Top 10, a first for the platform.

Whether you’re lining up with fellow Hawkins diehards or pressing play from your couch, the end is near—and the Stranger Things Finale is going to be huge.
