Zootopia 2 has hopped back to the top of the box office. In its third weekend in theaters, Disney’s animated sequel reclaimed the No. 1 domestic spot with an estimated $26.3 million, while officially crossing the coveted $1 billion mark worldwide.
The film’s global total now stands at approximately $1.14 billion, making it just the second Hollywood release of the year to reach the milestone. Its performance has been especially strong overseas, with China proving to be a major driver of its success. The sequel has earned more than $500 million in the region alone, cementing Zootopia 2 as one of the biggest Hollywood hits in China in recent years.

The weekend box office saw little disruption from new releases, allowing holdovers to dominate multiplexes. Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 remained a strong competitor, though it dropped to second place after a steep second-weekend decline. Despite the drop, the horror sequel continues to perform well financially and has already proven profitable for Blumhouse.
Elsewhere, James L. Brooks returned to directing for the first time in over a decade with Ella McCay, but the film struggled to find an audience. The political comedy-drama posted a modest debut, reflecting broader challenges for adult-oriented theatrical releases in today’s market.
So far in 2025, Disney has emerged as one of the year’s clear box office winners. Zootopia 2 joins Lilo & Stitch as the studio’s billion-dollar earners, though the year’s overall top-grossing title remains Chinese blockbuster Ne Zha 2.
With the holiday movie season approaching, Hollywood is hoping upcoming releases will build on this momentum and help close the year on a stronger theatrical note.
